R&D credit  ·  2-minute check

Does your work count as R&D?

Six questions. A straight answer. No dollar figures.

1. Did you build or improve something you sell, or a way you work?

A new product, a custom job, a better jig, a faster process. Improving how you work counts too.

2. Did it take real technical know-how?

Engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, or code. Shop math, materials, wiring, and recipes count. No lab needed.

3. At the start, were you unsure how to do it?

Unsure if it would work, how to build it, or what the right design was.

4. Did you try different options to find out?

Prototypes, test runs, design changes, trial and error. Attempts that failed count too.

5. Roughly how many people do technical work?

Designers, engineers, technicians, programmers, or you.

6. Have you ever claimed the R&D credit?

Either answer is fine. You can often claim past years too.

It costs nothing to find out. If there isn't enough credit, you don't pay.
